Born on September 25, 1962, Aida Turturro is an American performer most readily identified with her portrayal of Janice Soprano, the sister of a prominent New Jersey crime boss, Tony Soprano, in the acclaimed HBO series, The Sopranos. Her compelling work as Janice Soprano earned Turturro two Emmy Award nominations, first in 2001 and again in 2007. Her filmography includes appearances in a variety of movies, such as True Love, What About Bob?, Junior, Money Train, Sleepers, Fallen, Illuminata, Deep Blue Sea, Mickey Blue Eyes, Bringing Out the Dead, Play It to the Bone, and Romance & Cigarettes. Turturro hails from Brooklyn, New York, where her mother, Dorothy, was a homemaker and her father, Domenick Turturro, was an artist. She is also related to actors John Turturro, Nicholas Turturro, and Natalie Turturro, who are her cousins. Beyond her acting career, Turturro has dedicated efforts to increasing public understanding of Rheumatoid arthritis.
