About Akina Nakamori

Akina Nakamori, born on July 13, 1965, is a prominent figure in Japanese music and acting circles. Her career launched into the national spotlight following her victory on the 1981 talent competition Star Tanjō!, establishing her as one of Japan's most beloved and commercially successful artists. Her initial single, "Slow Motion," met with modest reception, reaching number thirty on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart. However, her subsequent release, "Shōjo A," propelled her to greater fame, climbing to number five on the Oricon charts and achieving sales exceeding 390,000 units. Nakamori's musical achievements continued with her second album, Variation, which secured the top spot on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart, holding the position for three consecutive weeks. Her foray into acting began in 1985 with a role in the Japanese romantic film Ai, Tabidachi. Following a significant break from her career between 2010 and 2014, Nakamori returned with two compilation albums, All Time Best: Original and All Time Best: Utahime Cover, both of which demonstrated considerable commercial appeal. By 2011, her record sales had surpassed 25.3 million, earning her recognition as the third highest-selling female idol singer in Japan's history.
