Born Alicia Augello Cook on January 25, 1981, the artist known as Alicia Keys is a multifaceted American talent in R&B, also recognized as a songwriter, producer, and actress. She honed her skills at the Professional Performing Arts School, achieving valedictorian status upon her graduation at the age of sixteen. Before finding a home with J Records, Keys explored early record deals with Columbia and Arista.

Her inaugural album, Songs in A Minor, was a remarkable commercial triumph, exceeding twelve million global sales. This achievement positioned her as the leading new artist and top R&B artist of 2001. The album's impact was further cemented in 2002 when it garnered Keys five Grammy Awards, including prestigious honors for Best New Artist and Song of the Year for her hit "Fallin'". Her sophomore effort, The Diary of Alicia Keys, arrived in 2003 and also enjoyed widespread success, selling eight million copies internationally and earning her an additional four Grammy Awards in 2005. Later that same year, she unveiled her first live album, Unplugged, which debuted at the premier position in the United States. This accomplishment made her the first female artist to have an MTV Unplugged album debut at number one, and the highest charting since Nirvana in 1994.
