Amy Adams — Biography
Amy Lou Adams, born on August 20, 1974, is an Italian-American actress celebrated for her diverse roles in both comedy and drama. Throughout her career, she has made it onto the lists of the highest-paid actresses in the world on three occasions. Her impressive collection of accolades includes two Golden Globe Awards, along with nominations for six Academy Awards and seven British Academy Film Awards. Adams was born in Vicenza, Italy, and grew up in Castle Rock, Colorado, as the fourth of seven siblings. Initially training as a ballerina, she shifted her focus to musical theater at the age of 18, spending the years from 1994 to 1998 performing in dinner theater. She made her cinematic debut in the 1999 satire Drop Dead Gorgeous, where she landed a supporting role. After relocating to Los Angeles, Adams took on guest roles in television and played "mean girl" characters in smaller films. Her significant breakthrough came in 2002 when she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Steven Spielberg's biopic Catch Me If You Can; however, she faced a year of unemployment following that film. It was her role as a talkative pregnant woman in the 2005 indie film Junebug that truly established her in the industry. Surprisingly, for someone with her wholesome image and charming demeanor, Adams worked at Hooters at the age of 18 to save money for a car. Coming from a Mormon family and being one of seven children, this employment choice was unexpected. During her high school years, she was active in choir and served as an apprentice dancer at a local dance company, with aspirations of becoming a ballerina. Notable films in her career include Enchanted, Catch Me If You Can, and American Hustle. In 2001, Adams met actor and painter Darren Le Gallo in an acting class; they began a romantic relationship a year later while working together on a short film named Pennies. They became engaged in 2008, welcomed their daughter Aviana in 2010, and married seven years later in an intimate ceremony at a ranch near Santa Barbara, California.
