Amy Brenneman — Biography

Born on June 22, 1964, Amy Frederica Brenneman is an American talent recognized for her work in both acting and producing. Her career gained significant traction on the small screen, first capturing attention as Detective Janice Licalsi in the popular ABC police drama NYPD Blue, a role she held from 1993 to 1994. Following this success, Brenneman took on a dual role, co-creating and starring as Judge Amy Gray in the CBS drama series Judging Amy, which ran from 1999 to 2005. These two impactful television performances earned her a total of five Primetime Emmy Award nominations. More recently, she has been a prominent figure in television dramas, portraying Violet Turner in Shonda Rhimes's medical series Private Practice from 2007 to 2013, and as Laurie Garvey in the HBO drama The Leftovers, which concluded in 2017. Brenneman also made a memorable appearance as Faye Moskowitz in a recurring capacity on Frasier and has lent her talents to a variety of films, including Heat (1995), Fear (1996), Daylight (1996), Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her (2000), Nine Lives (2005), and The Jane Austen Book Club (2007).
