About Anais Bescond
Anaïs Bescond, a decorated French biathlete who retired after the 2021-2022 season, was born on May 15, 1987. Her distinguished career includes Olympic and World Championship gold medals, and she also holds the rank of non-commissioned officer. Originally from Aunay-sur-Odon, Bescond relocated with her family to Morbier in the Jura mountains, where her passion for skiing ignited. Her early success on the international stage came at the 2011 Biathlon World Championships, where she secured a silver medal as part of the French relay team, a feat they replicated at the 2012 World Championships. Her inaugural World Cup victory in the biathlon sprint occurred in Antholz-Anterselva on January 16, 2014. Bescond represented France at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, achieving her strongest results with fifth-place finishes in both the individual and sprint disciplines. The Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics proved to be a highlight, with Bescond earning a bronze medal in the pursuit race, a gold medal in the mixed relay alongside her French teammates, and another bronze in the relay event.
