About Angelina Melnikova
Angelina Romanovna Melnikova, born on July 18, 2000, is a prominent figure in Russian artistic gymnastics. Her impressive collection of eleven Olympic and World championship medals places her among the most accomplished Russian gymnasts in history, sharing the third highest total.
Melnikova played a pivotal role in the Russian Olympic Committee's triumph, securing the team gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her Olympic journey began at the 2016 Summer Games, where she contributed to a silver medal finish in the team event. Her international success extends to multiple European Championships, leading Russian teams to gold in 2016 and 2018, and to silver at the World Championships in 2018 and 2019.
Beyond team achievements, Melnikova has earned numerous individual accolades. She is a two-time Olympic medalist, a five-time World medalist, and has secured nine medals at the European Championships. Her achievements also include four medals from the European Games and two Russian national all-around titles in 2016 and 2018.
Her individual triumphs include a bronze medal in the all-around and on floor exercise at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In 2021, she was crowned the World all-around champion, also taking home silver on floor and bronze on vault. Notably, her 2021 World all-around victory marked a significant moment, as she became the first gymnast from outside the United States in over a decade to win a World or Olympic all-around title.
At the junior level, Melnikova showcased her talent by winning gold medals at the 2014 European Championships in the team, all-around, and balance beam events. She also secured the 2014 Russian junior national all-around championship. Since 2017, Melnikova has held the distinguished position of captain for the Russian women's national gymnastics team.
