About Anna Nicole Smith
Anna Nicole Smith, born Vickie Lynn Hogan on November 28, 1967, was an American model, actress, and television personality whose life embodied both glamour and tragedy. She died on February 8, 2007, when she was discovered in her Hollywood, Florida hotel room from a fatal drug overdose.
Growing up in Mexia, Texas, the natural blonde was known as an unusually well-behaved child. Her mother worked as a police officer and maintained strict discipline. At age seventeen, Vickie married her high school boyfriend, and the couple both worked at a local Jim's Krispy Fried Chicken restaurant. The marriage was unhappy but produced a son. While working in Houston, she spotted a Playboy audition advertisement and adopted her stage name.
She debuted as a Playboy centerfold in March 1992 and earned the distinction of 1993 Playmate of the Year. Her striking appearance landed her modeling contracts with major fashion brands including Guess, H&M, and Heatherette. In total, she appeared on thirteen Playboy covers and thirteen photosets. During a stay at the Playboy Mansion, she met celebrity Tony Curtis, who sketched her portrait.
Her marriage to wealthy oil executive J. Howard Marshall occurred on June 27, 1994. Following his death one year later on August 4, 1995, she became involved in a prolonged legal battle over his estate. She pursued acting opportunities in films including The Hudsucker Proxy and Naked Gun 33⅓, plus a guest appearance on Ally McBeal. She later hosted her own reality television series, The Anna Nicole Show, and worked as a spokesmodel for various companies including Trimspa and PETA.
Her later years brought both joy and sorrow. She gave birth to daughter Danielynn, but her son Daniel died three days later. Struggling with addiction, she succumbed to a drug overdose at age thirty-nine, leaving a legacy comparable to her idol, Marilyn Monroe.
