About Ashlyn Gere
Kimberly Ashlyn McKarny was born on September 14, 1959, in Cherry Point, North Carolina, to a military family that relocated frequently throughout her childhood before eventually settling in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was raised in a traditional, conservative environment and completed her secondary education before enrolling at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she studied theater and communications. During her twenties, she pursued work as a showgirl and model in Las Vegas, which subsequently led to nude modeling opportunities and an introduction to the adult film industry through professional connections.
Her entertainment career began in 1986 with appearances in low-budget horror and B-movies, including Creepozoids and Lunch Meat, performed under her given name. When director Jim Holliday contacted her about transitioning to adult films, she found herself receptive to the proposal despite initially appearing unlikely to accept such an offer. At 27 years old, she felt frustrated with being typecast as merely attractive background characters and recognized adult entertainment as a lucrative opportunity to advance her career financially.
She made her adult film debut in 1990 at age 27, initially performing as Kim McKamy before adopting the stage name Ashlyn Gere. Recognizable for her brunette curls, hazel eyes, and petite stature, she participated in more than 200 productions for prestigious studios including Vivid Entertainment, VCA, and Evil Angel. Films such as Chameleons, The Masseuse, Realities, and Roxy showcased her acting abilities and screen presence. Collaborating with performers including Deidre Holland, Rocco Siffredi, Nina Hartley, and Peter North, she gained recognition alongside Jenna Jameson as a dominant figure of 1990s adult entertainment.
In the mid-1990s, she pursued mainstream television roles in programs like The X-Files and Space: Above and Beyond, though her adult film background limited these opportunities. She ceased adult film work in 1997, with a brief return in 2003, subsequently dedicating herself to mainstream acting and fitness instruction. Currently residing in Texas as of July 2025, she maintains a private existence without social media engagement.
She received numerous industry honors, including AVN Awards for Best Actress and Female Performer of the Year in 1993, XRCO Awards including Starlet of the Year in 1991, and induction into multiple halls of fame.
