About Beatrice Martin

Born on September 22, 1989, Béatrice Martin hails from Quebec, Canada, and is known to the music world as Cœur de pirate. Her musical journey began with the piano at the tender age of three. By fifteen, she was contributing her keyboard talents to the post-hardcore group December Strikes First. Following a short tenure as keyboardist for Bonjour Brumaire, she unveiled her self-titled debut album, Cœur de pirate, in 2008, released through Grosse Boîte. This initial offering earned a nomination for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2009 Juno Awards.

Her presence in the media expanded significantly in February 2009 when Quebec City photographer Francis Vachon incorporated her song "Ensemble" into a widely viewed YouTube video featuring his infant son playing. This viral moment led to appearances on Good Morning America and a positive mention from blogger Perez Hilton. In March 2009, Martin launched an English-language musical endeavor named Pearls. By June 2009, she was a guest on Jian Ghomeshi's CBC Radio Q program, performing "Ensemble" and debuting a new track, "Place de la république." Cœur de Pirate garnered a 2009 CBC Radio 3 "Bucky" award, decided by listener ballots. Additionally, her song "Comme des Enfants" was honored with the 2009 "Bucky" award for "Best Reason to Learn French." Martin also previously worked as a model for the alt-porn site GodsGirls under the name Bea.
