About Bjork

Hailing from Reykjavík, Iceland, Björk Guðmundsdóttir is a multifaceted artist recognized globally as a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and actress. Her career, spanning four decades, is marked by a distinctive three-octave voice and an unconventional public image. She has cultivated a diverse musical approach, blending elements of electronic, pop, experimental, trip hop, classical, and avant-garde sounds. Her musical journey commenced at the tender age of 11, and by 21, she had achieved international renown as the lead vocalist for the alternative rock ensemble, the Sugarcubes.

Following the dissolution of the Sugarcubes in 1992, Björk embarked on a solo career that quickly gained momentum. Albums such as Debut (1993), Post (1995), and Homogenic (1997) solidified her status, showcasing her collaborations with various artists and her engagement with multimedia projects. Her discography also includes Vespertine (2001), Medúlla (2004), Volta (2007), Biophilia (2011), Vulnicura (2015), Utopia (2017), and Fossora (2022). Several of her albums have charted within the top 20 of the US Billboard 200. By 2015, her global record sales had surpassed 20 million.

Björk's singles have also enjoyed considerable chart success, with thirty-one reaching the top 40 internationally. In the United Kingdom alone, she has accumulated 22 top 40 hits, including the top-10 tracks "It's Oh So Quiet," "Army of Me," and "Hyperballad," as well as the top-20 singles "Play Dead," "Big Time Sensuality," and "Violently Happy." Her impressive list of honors and awards includes the Order of the Falcon, five BRIT Awards, and sixteen Grammy nominations. In 2015, Time magazine acknowledged her as one of the 100 most influential individuals worldwide. Rolling Stone recognized her as the 60th greatest singer and the 81st greatest songwriter.

Beyond her music, Björk starred in Lars von Trier's 2000 film Dancer in the Dark, earning her the Best Actress Award at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. She also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for "I've Seen It All." Her album Biophilia was uniquely presented as an interactive app with an accompanying educational program. Björk has been a vocal advocate for environmental issues in Iceland. A comprehensive retrospective exhibition celebrating her work was held at the New York Museum of Modern Art in 2015.

During the formation of the Sugarcubes, Björk was briefly married to guitarist Þór Eldon. Their
