About Carol Shaya
Carol Shaya, once a member of the New York City Police Department, found her career at the force ended after her appearance in the August 1994 issue of Playboy magazine. Following her dismissal, Shaya initiated legal action against the department, seeking ten million dollars in damages. She alleged wrongful termination and gender discrimination, contending that male officers involved in adult films, a category she felt extended beyond mere pictorials, faced less severe consequences, such as suspensions rather than termination. This lawsuit drew criticism from Stanley Crouch during an address to the American Enterprise Institute. Ultimately, the case, titled Shaya-Castro vs. New York City Police Department, was decided in favor of the city and its police department, with this ruling being upheld on appeal. Today, Carol Shaya resides in West Hollywood, California, where she works as a personal trainer, actress, and model, and holds membership in the Screen Actors Guild.
