About Catia Pedrosa

Catia Pedrosa, a Brazilian talent celebrated for her work as an actress and model, holds a significant place in the nation's beauty pageant history. In 1983, she achieved a groundbreaking distinction, becoming the inaugural representative from Rio de Janeiro to be crowned Miss Brazil World. Prior to this national title, Pedrosa's early successes included being named Garota Carinho in a 1979 competition organized by Jovem magazine, a publication from Bloch Editores. The following year, she earned the accolade of The Most Beautiful Student in Rio de Janeiro. Her participation in the Miss World pageant was notably successful, securing her a spot among the top fifteen global contestants and ultimately placing third in the final standings. Additionally, her grace and charm on the international stage led to her being named Miss Personality.

Following her reign as Miss Brazil World, Catia Pedrosa remained connected to the entertainment industry, appearing on various programs for SBT, including the popular comedy show A Praça É Nossa. In June 1988, she graced the cover of Playboy magazine, a memorable appearance that marked her as the second former beauty queen, after Vera Fischer, to pose nude for a men's publication. Pedrosa also ventured into theatrical entrepreneurship, spearheading the "Projeto Escola & Teatro Infantil" from 1992 to 1996. Her personal life included a year-long marriage to presenter Wagner Montes, with whom she shared one child. Tragically, Catia Pedrosa battled mental health challenges for many years, including depression, panic syndrome, and anorexia, leading to several suicide attempts. She received psychotherapy to cope with these struggles. Her life concluded on March 20, 2018, at the age of 55, following a battle with colorectal cancer that had metastasized to her abdomen.
