About Chappell Roan
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, who goes by the stage name Chappell Roan, is a talented American singer and songwriter. She collaborates with Dan Nigro, drawing inspiration predominantly from the synth-pop sounds of the 1980s and early 2000s pop music. Roan’s aesthetic is greatly shaped by drag culture, and her music and performance style have been characterized by critics, including those at Rolling Stone, as "campy." In 2014, she made her debut on YouTube with an original track titled "Die Young," leading to her signing with Atlantic Records shortly afterward. Five years later, in 2017, she launched her inaugural EP, School Nights.
Her 2020 single "Pink Pony Club" marked a significant stylistic shift from her earlier work and played a crucial role in her rise to fame. However, that same year, she was released from Atlantic Records. After a brief hiatus, she began releasing music independently in 2022. In 2023, she released her first full-length album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, via Island Records, which received accolades and was featured in numerous year-end best album lists. While it did not achieve immediate commercial success, by early 2024, the album developed a dedicated following and was recognized as a "sleeper hit."
The album's breakthrough in the charts was facilitated by Roan's role as a supporting act for Olivia Rodrigo's Guts World Tour, her performances at major music festivals like Coachella and Governors Ball, and the popularity of her follow-up single, "Good Luck, Babe!" By mid-2024, the album had seen significant upward movement in global charts, hitting number one in Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK, while reaching the top five on the U.S. Billboard 200 and in Australia. This resurgence in popularity also led to several singles charting anew for the first time since their initial release. Roan has German and Swiss-German heritage. As of September 2025, she boasts an impressive following of 5.0 million on TikTok and 2.22 million subscribers on YouTube.
