Born Christine Marie Evert on December 21, 1954, this American tennis luminary, also known as Chris Evert Lloyd from 1979 to 1987, ascended to the pinnacle of the sport as the world's number one player. Her legacy is cemented by her status as one of tennis's all-time greats, a title earned through nineteen Grand Slam singles championships. Among these were an unparalleled seven victories at the French Open and a record-tying six triumphs at the US Open, a feat matched only by Serena Williams. Evert commanded the world number one ranking for an impressive 260 weeks and was recognized as the year-end number one singles player on seven occasions, spanning the years 1974 through 1978, and again in 1980 and 1981. For much of the 1970s and 1980s, she and her formidable rival Martina Navratilova were the undisputed queens of women's tennis.
