About Connie Britton
Connie Britton, born Constance Womack on March 6, 1967, in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American actress. Her parents, Linda and Allen Womack, a physicist, moved her and her sister Cynthia to Lynchburg, Virginia, when she was seven, where she attended E. C. Glass High School. She pursued a degree in Asian Studies at Dartmouth College, graduating in 1989. Subsequently, she relocated to New York City and dedicated two years to studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse under Sanford Meisner.
Britton adopted her married surname as her professional name, despite being divorced. Her early acting career included a New York theatrical debut in Caroline Kava's The Early Girl at The Courtyard Playhouse, where she played Laurel, a prostitute. This professional role, taken during her studies, nearly led to her expulsion from the Neighborhood Playhouse program. Following her graduation, she engaged in off-Broadway theatre for an additional two years before moving to Los Angeles after the success of The Brothers McMullen.
She gained prominence for her portrayal of Nikki Faber on the sitcom Spin City from 1996 to 2000. Her character was eventually written out of the series when Charlie Sheen took over the lead role from Michael J. Fox. Britton also held a recurring role as Diane Huxley, the girlfriend and landlady of Jack Bauer on the thriller series 24 during its fifth season.
Her most celebrated role was Tami Taylor in the NBC/DirecTV drama Friday Night Lights, which she played from 2006 to 2011. This performance garnered critical acclaim and earned her two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. While the television series shares its title with the 2004 film Friday Night Lights, Britton played different characters in each. In the show, she was Tami Taylor, and in the film, she was Sharon Gaines.
Britton's filmography also includes the indie-thriller The Last Winter in 2006 and an appearance in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street as Dr. Gwendoline "Gwen" Holbrook. She also made guest appearances on The West Wing, specifically in the Season 3 episodes "Manchester Part I and Part II," as part of Bruno Gianelli's team. Britton currently resides in both New York and Los Angeles and enjoys hiking, yoga, and volunteer work in her spare time.
