About Debbie Harry
Deborah Ann Harry is an American singer, songwriter, and actress renowned for her role as the lead vocalist of the band Blondie. Between 1979 and 2017, her collaborations with the group achieved multiple No. 1 hits on both the US and UK charts. An interesting tidbit: from 1968 to 1973, Debbie worked as a Bunny at New York City's Playboy Club. Born under the Cancer zodiac sign, her birth name was initially Angela Tremble. At just three months old, she was adopted by a couple in Hawthorne, New Jersey, who owned a gift shop. They chose to name her Deborah Ann Harry. Debbie learned about her adoption at the age of four, and many years later, in the late 1980s, she sought out her birth mother, who chose not to engage with her. Undeterred, Debbie pursued a successful career in music, becoming an international rock icon. She is most famous for her work with Blondie, whose albums consistently reached the top of the charts in both countries from the late 1970s to early 1980s, with a chart-topping comeback in the UK in 1999 after the band reformed. Notably, she is recognized as the first female rapper to hit No. 1 in the US with the song “Rapture.” In addition to her band successes, she enjoyed solo endeavors, particularly in Europe, before rejoining Blondie in the late 1990s. Despite some confusion where people refer to her by the band’s name, it’s worth noting that her bandmates are mostly overshadowed by her star power. Furthermore, beyond her musical talent, she has established herself in acting, boasting over 60 film roles and various television appearances. There are even whispers of her performing puppet shows for children, although this remains unverified. She graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1963 and earned an Associate's degree from Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ, in 1965. Her array of jobs leading up to her music career included working as a secretary at BBC Radio and serving as a waitress at Max's Kansas City, alongside roles as a go-go dancer and Playboy Bunny.
