Edie Falco, born July 5, 1963, is a prominent American actress. Her most recognizable performances include embodying Carmela Soprano in the acclaimed HBO drama The Sopranos, which ran from 1999 to 2007, and as Nurse Jackie Peyton in Showtime's series Nurse Jackie, airing from 2009 to 2015. Before these iconic roles, Falco also featured as Diane Whittlesey in HBO's gritty prison series Oz, appearing from 1997 to 2000. In 2016, she took on the role of Sylvia Wittel in the online series Horace and Pete. The following year, 2017, saw her portray defense attorney Leslie Abramson in the inaugural season of the true crime anthology series Law & Order True Crime. Falco's cinematic contributions include starring roles in Laws of Gravity (1992), a performance that garnered her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead, and Judy Berlin (1999).
