About Erika Lust

Born Erika Hallqvist in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1977, Erika Lust displayed an early affinity for the worlds of film and theater. Her academic pursuits led her to Lund University, where she earned a degree in Political Science, with a particular focus on feminism and human rights. A significant turning point in her intellectual development came with her reading of Linda Williams’ influential book, Hard Core: Power, Pleasure, and the "Frenzy of the Visible," published in 1989, which profoundly impacted the direction of her future creative endeavors. After completing her studies in 1999, Lust relocated to Barcelona in 2000 to immerse herself in filmmaking studies.

Lust embarked on a career in the adult film industry with a clear objective: to produce ethical, female-centric pornography that actively subverts the conventions of mainstream productions. In 2004, she released her debut short film, The Good Girl, which was made available for free distribution under a Creative Commons license. The film experienced rapid popularity, achieving millions of downloads within weeks. The following year, in 2005, she established Lust Films, her production company dedicated to exploring themes of female pleasure, consent, and sophisticated cinematic storytelling. Her 2007 anthology, Five Hot Stories for Her, which included her initial short film, garnered several accolades, including Best Spanish Screenplay at the Barcelona International Erotic Film Festival, Best Adult Film for Women at the Venus Berlin Eroticline Awards, and the Feminist Porn Award for Movie of the Year in 2008. Lust's films are recognized for their polished production values, characterized by cinematic lighting and authentic dialogue, their commitment to diverse casting across body types, ethnicities, and LGBTQ+ performers, and their ethical production practices, ensuring fair compensation, safe working environments, and performer autonomy.

Among her key projects and innovations is Lust Cinema, launched in 2010, a streaming platform dedicated to showcasing feminist and independent erotic films. This platform was notably featured in Glamour's 2017 list of "15 Feminist Porn Sites You’ll Really Enjoy." Another significant initiative is XConfessions, which has been ongoing since 2013. This crowdsourced project invites viewers to anonymously share their fantasies, from which Lust selects two each month to adapt into short films. XConfessions has earned multiple Feminist Porn Awards in 2014 and 2015 and has been screened at prominent film festivals such as the Berlin Porn Film Festival, Raindance, and the Chicago International Film Festival. Her notable filmography includes Cabaret Desire (2011), which received the Feminist Porn Award in 2012 and the CineKink Audience Choice Award; The Intern (2020), notable for being the first film to secure nominations for BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) and trans performers at the XBIZ Europa Awards;
