About Eugenie Bouchard
In 2014, Eugenie Bouchard made history at the Wimbledon Championships by becoming the first Canadian-born player to reach the final of a major singles tournament while representing Canada, ultimately finishing as the runner-up to Petra Kvitová. That same year, she also advanced to the semifinals of both the Australian Open and the French Open. The 2021 season for Bouchard began at the Australian Open, where she participated in the qualifying rounds but was eliminated in the second round by Yuan Yue in straight sets.
In March 2021, given a wildcard at the Abierto Zapopan, she progressed to her eighth career WTA final, and her second of the last six months, after securing four impressive victories. However, she lost the final in straight sets to the fourth-seeded Sara Sorribes Tormo. This result saw Bouchard's ranking improve to No. 116 globally. Following her first-round match against Caroline Dolehide, it was revealed that she had sustained a tear in her right shoulder, necessitating arthroscopic surgery in June, which ultimately ended her season. Bouchard concluded the year ranked No. 246 in the world.
During her recovery, she began working as a color commentator for The Tennis Channel. As she continued her rehabilitation throughout 2022, she missed both the Australian Open and French Open, and by May, she had no world ranking. In June, she announced her return to competitive tennis and intended to participate in Wimbledon using a protected ranking. However, she later withdrew due to the WTA's decision not to offer ranking points at the 2022 Championships.
In August of that year, Bouchard marked her return to the tour after 17 months at the Vancouver Open, but was defeated in her first match against Arianne Hartono in straight sets. At the US Open, she attempted to qualify for the main draw but was eliminated in the second round by Czech fourth seed Linda Noskova in straight sets. Bouchard received a wildcard for the Chennai Open, where she reached the quarterfinals after wins against Joanne Züger and Karman Thandi but narrowly lost to Nadia Podoroska in three sets. This performance lifted her ranking to No. 502.
In October, she qualified for the WTA 500 event in Ostrava, where she achieved victories over two top 100 players before losing in the first round to sixth seed Belinda Bencic in a closely contested three-set match. At the WTA 1000 event in Guadalajara, Bouchard, also receiving a wildcard, won her first-round match against American qualifier Kayla Day but fell to 12th seed Jelena Ostapenko in three sets. She ended the season with a ranking of No. 323.
The 2023 season commenced with Bouchard entering the qualifying draw of the ASB Classic in New Zealand via wildcard, where she won her opening match against 11th
