About Foxy Brown
Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand, artistically known as Foxy Brown, emerged onto the music scene as an American rapper. Her career officially launched when she inked a deal with Def Jam in 1996. That same year, on November 19th, she dropped her inaugural album, Ill Na Na. This debut effort achieved platinum status from the RIAA and has gone on to sell more than seven million units globally. Beyond her solo work, Foxy Brown also joined forces with fellow artists Nas, AZ, and Cormega (whose spot was later filled by Nature) to form the influential hip hop collective known as the Firm. Their singular album was released in 1997 under the banner of Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment. In 1999, Foxy Brown's sophomore album, Chyna Doll, achieved a significant milestone by debuting at the pinnacle of the Billboard 200 chart. This accomplishment positioned her as the second female rapper, following Lauryn Hill's 1998 achievement, to reach this coveted number one spot. Marchand's heritage is a rich tapestry, encompassing African, Chinese, and Trinidadian roots.
