Born on December 31, 1995, Gabrielle Christina Victoria Douglas, known to the world as Gabby Douglas, is a celebrated American gymnast. Her athletic prowess landed her a coveted spot on the United States women's national gymnastics team, famously christened the "Fierce Five" by the press. At the 2012 London Summer Olympics, Douglas reached soaring heights, securing gold medals in both the individual all-around and the team event. Her international success continued with the American squad, earning gold at the World Championships in 2011 and again in 2015. That same year, she also claimed the silver medal in the all-around competition at the World Championships. Douglas was a vital part of the "Final Five" that conquered the team competition at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, adding another gold to her collection. Her achievements etched her name in history as the first African-American woman to win the Olympic individual all-around title and the first American gymnast to achieve Olympic gold in both the individual all-around and team events during the same Games. Alongside Simone Biles, she is one of only two American all-around champions to have secured multiple gold medals in a single Olympic appearance. Douglas also made history as the first reigning Olympic all-around champion to compete and medal at the World Championships since Elena Davydova in 1981. At the time of her writing, she held the title of the reigning AT&T American Cup all-around champion. Douglas's remarkable gymnastics journey inspired a 2014 Lifetime biopic, The Gabby Douglas Story, and led to her own reality television show, Douglas Family Gold.
