Gina Carano — Biography
Gina Joy Carano was born on April 16, 1982, and is an American entertainer who previously worked as a professional mixed martial artist. Between 2006 and 2009, she fought for EliteXC and Strikeforce, finishing her career in those organizations with a record of seven wins and one loss. Her success in the sport earned her widespread recognition, leading some to label her the "face of women's MMA," though she disputed this characterization. In 2009, Carano and Cris Cyborg made history by becoming the first female fighters to serve as the main event of a major MMA card when they faced each other in a Strikeforce matchup. Following her sole professional loss against Cyborg, Carano chose to leave competitive fighting behind. She then pursued a career in entertainment, initially appearing as Crush on the revived American Gladiators television program. Her breakthrough film role came as the protagonist in the 2011 action movie Haywire, which opened doors to further cinema opportunities including roles in Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and Deadpool (2016). On the small screen, she took on the character Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the Disney+ western science fiction show The Mandalorian, appearing from 2019 to 2020, until her departure following controversy surrounding her public political statements. As of December 2024, Carano maintains an Instagram following of 1.8 million people.
