Heather Locklear — Biography
Heather Deen Locklear, born on September 25, 1961, is a distinguished American actress known for her prominent roles in television. She gained fame with iconic performances such as Sammy Jo Carrington in the hit 1980s soap opera Dynasty, Officer Stacy Sheridan in the police drama T.J. Hooker, the scheming Amanda Woodward in the 1990s melodrama Melrose Place, and Caitlin Moore on the comedy Spin City. Hailing from Westwood, Los Angeles, California, Locklear is the daughter of Diane Tinsley, a production executive with Disney, and William Robert Locklear, who worked as an administrator at UCLA. As the youngest of four siblings, she attended Newbury Park High School and possesses Scottish lineage, along with some distant Lumbee roots on her father's side.
While attending UCLA, Locklear began her journey in the entertainment industry through modeling and commercials before landing her first acting credits in the 1979 series Tales of the Unexpected, followed by a guest role on CHiPs the next year. She took on minor roles in various shows, including Eight Is Enough, until producer Aaron Spelling cast her as Sammy Jo Dean in the second season of Dynasty, marking the beginning of a highly fruitful collaboration. He later cast her in T.J. Hooker alongside William Shatner; she successfully managed both shows through the mid-1980s, fully dedicating herself to Dynasty until it wrapped up in 1989.
The 1990s saw her star in the sitcom Going Places, which did not achieve success, and a Dynasty reunion miniseries. However, it was her portrayal of the cunning Amanda Woodward on FOX's Melrose Place—a spin-off of Beverly Hills 90210—that became her most renowned role. Initially brought on for a limited run, producers quickly recognized her ability to enhance the show's struggling ratings, akin to Joan Collins' contribution to Dynasty. She was promoted to a series regular by season two while retaining guest star status until the show ended in 1999. For her work in Melrose Place, she received a First Americans in the Arts award for Best Actress in a Television Series.
After Melrose Place, Locklear starred in the sitcom Spin City alongside Michael J. Fox and later Charlie Sheen until 2002. She also led the short-lived drama LAX in 2004. Throughout her career, she worked on seven television series produced by Aaron Spelling, including Dynasty, T.J. Hooker, Matt Houston, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Hotel, and Melrose Place. Additionally, she appeared in the Lifetime film Flirting With Forty, in which she played a divorced woman on vacation in Hawaii who finds herself attracted to a twenty-two-year-old. Her personal relationships include notable figures such as Tom Cruise, Mark Harmon, and Scott Baio.
