Hedy Chan — Biography
Hedy Chan's musical journey is built upon a foundation of rigorous academic training. She earned a Master of Performance from the Royal College of Music in London, preceded by a Bachelor of Music from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Her tutelage included instruction from the esteemed Soprano Nancy Yuen and Mezzo-soprano Sally Burgess. Chan displayed exceptional aptitude and dedication from an early age. By thirteen, she achieved Distinction in both ABRSM Grade 8 Piano and Grade 8 Vocal Singing. The following year, she secured first place in the intermediate class of the 11th Asia Pacific Piano Competition. Over the years, Chan consistently achieved top honors, winning first place more than ten times at the annual Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. These accolades led to her receiving both the distinguished Barbara Fei Open Class Vocal and Barbara Fei Female Voice Scholarships. In 2021, she was also recognized with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund 2021-22 Full Scholarship, which granted her membership in the Awardees Association. Chan's operatic debut was in Puccini's Suor Angelica, where she performed the title role. She has also had the privilege of participating in the renowned Renée Fleming Masterclass and collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Eduardo Chama, Nelly Miricioiu, Michael Chance, and Joy Mammen. In 2021, she was invited to participate in the David Seligman Opera School at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. In 2024, Chan lent her expertise as a judge on the program “The Voice,” broadcast by the Hong Kong channel TVB. As of August 2025, her online presence includes a substantial following of 779,000 on Instagram and 25,300 subscribers on her YouTube channel.
