About Jaina Lee Ortiz
Jaina Lee Ortiz, originally named Jessica Ortiz, was born on November 20, 1986, in California but grew up in The Bronx, New York. As an American actress and dancer, she gained prominence for her performance as Detective Annalise Villa in the Fox police drama Rosewood, which aired from 2015 to 2017. In 2018, Ortiz took on a leading role in the ABC drama series Station 19.
Her father, Joe Ortiz, is a detective with the NYPD. Ortiz’s journey in dance began at nine when she took Salsa and Mambo classes. By the time she was 15, she was not only dancing but also teaching her own classes, and soon after, she started traveling around the world as a professional instructor and performer.
Her acting career commenced with appearances in student films. To refine her craft, she dedicated two years to studying at Maggie Flanigan Studios, where she mastered the Meisner technique. In 2009, Ortiz participated in the second season of VH1's reality competition Scream Queens, which put her and nine other hopeful actresses through various acting challenges for a chance to win a role in an upcoming film. The series premiered on August 2, 2010, and concluded with Ortiz finishing as the first runner-up in the season finale.
