Jean Bell — Biography

Jean Bell made history when she graced the October 1969 centerfold of Playboy, a significant milestone as only the second Black woman to achieve this distinction, following Jennifer Jackson in March 1965. Photographer Don Klumpp captured her iconic images. Her impact extended further when, mere months later, she became the first African American individual to feature on the magazine's cover. Bell was among five playmates spotlighted on the January 1970 cover. Following her notable Playboy appearances, Bell transitioned into a brief acting career, appearing in films like Mean Streets and The Klansman, occasionally using the name Jeanne Bell. She revisited her modeling roots with a nude pictorial in the December 1979 issue, part of the "Playmates Forever!" feature.
