Jorja Fox — Biography

Jorja Fox has carved out a memorable presence on screen, appearing in three historically successful television dramas: ER (1994), The West Wing (1999), and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000). Her journey into acting began after a teenage career in fashion modeling. She further honed her skills through formal acting studies at New York's Lee Strasberg Institute and under the guidance of veteran actor William Hickey at HB Studios.

Following appearances in various films and television series, Fox achieved a significant breakthrough in 1996 with a role on the highly popular ER. She portrayed Dr. Maggie Doyle, a lesbian surgical resident from Chicago's south side, in 33 episodes. Subsequently, she secured a recurring role in the acclaimed series The West Wing as Gina Toscano, a Secret Service agent tasked with protecting the President's college-aged daughter.

Fox became a cornerstone of the mega-hit CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, bringing to life crime scene investigator Sara Sidle from 2000 to 2008. She made guest appearances in 2009, returned in a recurring capacity in 2010, and rejoined the main cast from 2011 until the show's conclusion in 2015. She reprised her role as Sara Sidle in the 2021 debut season of CSI Vegas. Her contributions to CSI were recognized with a Screen Actors Guild award in 2005 for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, shared for the show's 300th episode and its series finale in September 2015.

Prior to the 2020 pandemic's widespread impact, Fox appeared in two films and a pilot for CBS. Beyond her acting work, she is a co-founder of the production company Seafox Productions, which has co-produced the musical "Stay Forever: The Life and Music of Dusty Springfield" in Los Angeles and New York, as well as four feature documentaries. Fox is also a dedicated advocate for environmental and animal welfare causes.

In July 2004, Fox experienced a temporary departure from CSI due to failing to sign paperwork confirming her return. Her co-star, George Eads, was dismissed the following day for not reporting to work, but both actors were reinstated within a week. According to CSI writer David Rambo, Fox herself penned Sara Sidle's poignant farewell note to Grissom in the 2007 episode "Goodbye and Good Luck."

Her parents, Marilyn and an Irish-Canadian father, immigrated from Montreal. Her mother, Marilyn, was of Belgian-Canadian heritage. Fox has an older brother, Jeff.
