About Kajol

Born on August 5, 1974, Kajol Devgn, née Mukherjee, is a prominent Indian actress renowned simply as Kajol. The media has frequently recognized her as one of Hindi cinema's most accomplished actresses. Her extensive collection of awards includes six Filmfare Awards, a record for Best Actress that she shares with her aunt, the legendary Nutan. In 2011, the Indian government bestowed upon her the Padma Shri, the nation's fourth-highest civilian honor.

The daughter of Tanuja and Shomu Mukherjee, Kajol embarked on her acting journey in 1992 with the film Bekhudi, undertaking the role while still a student. She later discontinued her studies, achieving her first commercial triumph with Baazigar in 1993, a film that paired her with Shah Rukh Khan. Following a significant breakthrough in the romantic drama Yeh Dillagi in 1994, she starred alongside Khan in numerous box office successes. Among these were Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995 and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, both of which cemented her widespread popularity and earned her two Filmfare Best Actress awards. While her career was further solidified by commercially successful family dramas during this era, it was her compelling portrayals of a psychopathic killer in Gupt: The Hidden Truth in 1997 and an avenging character in Dushman in 1998 that garnered her considerable critical acclaim.

After her role in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... in 2001, which secured her a third Filmfare Award, Kajol took a hiatus from full-time acting, making infrequent appearances over the following two decades. She made a successful return with the 2006 romantic thriller Fanaa and subsequently took on leading roles in films such as U Me Aur Hum (2008), We Are Family (2010), My Name Is Khan (2010), and Dilwale (2015). Her performances in Fanaa and My Name Is Khan resulted in two more Filmfare Best Actress awards. Kajol's highest-grossing film to date is the 2020 period drama Tanhaji. Beyond her film work, Kajol is an engaged social activist, particularly recognized for her advocacy for widows and children. She has also served as a judge on the reality show Rock-N-Roll Family in 2008 and holds a management position at Devgn Entertainment and Software Ltd. Kajol has been married to actor Ajay Devgn since 1999, and they have two children together.
