Beginning her tenure in 2023, Katie Elizabeth Britt stands as Alabama's junior United States senator. A Republican, Britt has made history as the first woman elected to represent Alabama in the U.S. Senate and is the youngest Republican woman to achieve a Senate seat. Prior to her Senate service, she led the Business Council of Alabama as its president and CEO from 2019 to 2021. Earlier, from 2016 to 2018, she served as chief of staff for Richard Shelby, the senator she would eventually succeed.

Britt's political career began in May 2004, shortly after she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama in 2004. She joined Senator Richard Shelby's staff as a deputy press secretary, later advancing to the role of press secretary. In 2007, she transitioned to the University of Alabama, working as a special assistant to then-President Robert Witt. Her legal education included participation in Tax Moot Court at the University of Alabama School of Law, from which she received her Juris Doctor degree in 2013.

Following law school, Britt joined the Birmingham firm Johnston Barton Proctor & Rose LLP. When that firm closed in March 2014, she and seventeen colleagues moved to the Birmingham office of Butler Snow LLP, where she established the firm's government affairs division. In November 2015, Britt took a hiatus from Butler Snow to rejoin Senator Shelby's team, contributing to his reelection campaign as deputy campaign manager and communications director. In 2016, Shelby appointed Britt his chief of staff, making her a key advisor and the leader of his Judicial Nomination Task Force. By May 2016, Yellowhammer News recognized Britt as a significant figure destined to influence Alabama's future leadership.

Katie Britt is married to Wesley Britt, a former NFL player. Their relationship began during their time at the University of Alabama, and they wed on March 8, 2008. The couple resides in Montgomery, Alabama, and are parents to two children.
