Kelly Gallagher graced Playboy magazine as the Playmate Of The Month for September 1994. Her photograph from the publication made a fleeting appearance in the 1995 motion picture Welcome To The Dollhouse, where it was posted on a school locker. She relocated to Los Angeles during her mid-twenties with aspirations of pursuing a career in the entertainment industry as a set decorator. While employed as a hostess at a restaurant in Beverly Hills in 1994, she caught the attention of Marilyn Grabowski, a photography editor working for Playboy at that time. She established her own design company, Kelly Wearstler Interior Design, commonly referred to as KWID, in the mid-1990s. Initially concentrating on the hotel sector, her firm expanded to encompass premium residential, commercial, retail and hospitality projects. Her work on the Viceroy hotel chain during the early 2000s became particularly influential within the design world. Her clientele has included notable figures such as Gwen Stefani, Cameron Diaz and Stacey Snider. She participated as a judge throughout all episodes of Bravo's Top Design competition series during 2007 and 2008. Her image also appeared as Playmate Of The Month in numerous international editions of Playboy, including Italy in October 1994, Greece in October 1994, Australia in November 1994, Brazil in February 1995, Argentina in April 1995 and Czech Republic in August 1995.
