Laura Leighton — Biography

Born on July 24, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa, Laura Leighton is an accomplished actress and producer. Her career is marked by notable roles in television series such as Melrose Place (1992), Skin (2003), and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999). Leighton has been married to fellow actor Doug Savant since May 2, 1998, and they share two children. Her own beauty was recognized when People magazine included her in their list of the 50 most beautiful people in the world in 1996.

Leighton became a mother for the second time at the age of 36, welcoming a daughter named Lucy Jane Leighton Savant on June 9, 2005. The child, weighing 7 pounds and 7 ounces, was fathered by her husband, Doug Savant. Her first child, a son named Jack Douglas Savant, was born on October 10, 2000, when Leighton was 32 years old, also with Doug Savant as the father.

An early setback in her film career occurred when she was cast in the lead role for Shake, Rattle and Rock! (1994). However, a broken leg forced her to withdraw from the project, and Renée Zellweger subsequently took over the part. In the early 1990s, before the tragic murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, Leighton worked as a bartender at the well-known Mezzaluna Restaurant in Brentwood, California. During her time there, TV correspondent Nelson Aspen served as the maitre d', and Ron Goldman also worked as a waiter. Leighton possesses a talent for playing the piano.

She pursued her education at California State University in Long Beach, California, where she majored in business. Leighton is also a stepmother to Doug Savant's two daughters, Adrianna Josephine Savant, born on January 17, 1992, and Madeleine Marie Savant, born on July 20, 1993. Her marriage to Doug Savant followed a year-long relationship and a six-month engagement. Leighton completed her secondary education at West High School in her hometown of Iowa City, Iowa.
