Liv embarked on her modeling career at the age of 14 before transitioning her focus to acting. She made her film debut in the movie Silent Fall in 1994, garnering critical acclaim shortly thereafter for her performances in 1995's Heavy and Empire Records, followed by standout roles in That Thing You Do! and Stealing Beauty in 1996.
Her filmography expanded with notable appearances in films like Inventing the Abbotts (1997), Armageddon (1998), Cookie's Fortune, and Onegin (both released in 1999), as well as Dr. T & the Women (2000) and One Night at McCool's (2001). In addition to her acting career, she has pursued music; she collaborated with composer Howard Shore and lent her voice to The Lemonheads' album Varshons in 2009, covering Leonard Cohen’s "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye." She was featured on a bonus track of Evan Dando’s 2017 release where she sang "Shots Is Fired" and launched her own music career with the single "Need You Tonight" in 2011.
Tyler has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the United States since 2003 and has represented Givenchy's perfume and cosmetics line.
