About Ludivine Sagnier
Born on July 3, 1979, Ludivine Sagnier is a French performer, recognized for her work both on screen and in modeling. Her career began in 1989, and she has since earned three César Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress. These accolades came for her roles in Swimming Pool (2003), Peter Pan (2003), and A Secret (2007).
Hailing from La Celle-Saint-Cloud in the Yvelines département of France, Sagnier embarked on her acting journey at a young age. Her initial foray into film occurred at just ten years old with a part in Les maris, les femmes, les amants (1989). She solidified her standing as a prominent emerging talent in French and international cinema through her collaborations with French director François Ozon. These included Water Drops on Burning Rocks, which was based on a screenplay by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 8 femmes (2002), and Swimming Pool (2003).
For her contribution to "8 Women," Sagnier received a César nomination and the Romy Schneider Award, an honor bestowed annually upon a promising young French actress. In this ensemble piece, she demonstrated her acting capabilities by holding her own alongside esteemed actresses such as Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Emmanuelle Béart, and Fanny Ardant. Alongside these celebrated figures of French cinema, Sagnier also shared the Best Actress Award from the European Film Academy and secured the Silver Bear Award at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival.
Swimming Pool marked Sagnier's transition into English-language cinema, following her first English role in Toothache (2002). Promoted in the United States with an image of Sagnier relaxing by a pool, Ozon's film achieved significant box office success as one of the highest-grossing foreign films in the U.S. in 2003. To date, she has declined substantial financial offers for American film roles that would cast her as the romantic interest of young American stars, maintaining her commitment to French filmmaking.
Sagnier became a mother on March 25, 2005, with the birth of her daughter, Bonnie, with her then-boyfriend, French actor Nicolas Duvauchelle. She is now in a relationship with director Kim Chapiron, and they have two daughters, born in 2009 and 2014.
