About Marie Baumer
Born on May 7, 1969, in Düsseldorf, Henrike Marie Bäumer is a German talent celebrated for her contributions to both stage and screen. Her roots are in the Rhineland, where her father worked as an architect and her mother as an occupational therapist. Bäumer spent her formative years in Hamburg, attending Gymnasium Blankenese before continuing her education at the Waldorf School in Nienstedten, which she left following the eleventh grade.
Her journey into acting commenced in 1992 with studies at the Scuola Teatro Dimitri in Verscio, Switzerland, and Studio 033 in Hamburg. Between 1994 and 1996, she honed her craft at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, notably under the guidance of Jutta Hoffmann. It was during this period that her career gained significant momentum with a memorable role in Detlev Buck's comedic film, Männerpension. Bäumer's powerful performance in Oskar Roehler's Der alte Affe Angst garnered her critical acclaim, earning her the Bavarian Film Prize in 2002 and the German Film Critics' Prize in 2003.
Beyond her cinematic endeavors, Bäumer has graced the stage with compelling performances. In 1995, she featured in August von Kotzebue's drama Menschenhass und Reue, directed by Dieter Löbsch, at the Theater im Zimmer in Hamburg. The following year, she appeared in Falk Richter's play Silikon at the Theater im Kampnagel. In 2007, she was invited to perform at the Salzburg Festival, taking on the role of the Paramour in Hugo von Hofmannsthal's classic Jedermann. January 2011 marked her directorial debut with the play Abschied at the Hamburg Kammerspiele. Bäumer has also been a regular participant in the Dresden Music Festival at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, including a Wagner-themed evening in 2013. In 2016, she lent her voice to the world premiere of The Swan of Catania, narrating the golden age of Italian bel canto.
She actively shares her expertise by conducting acting courses and workshops at institutions such as the School of Acting in Hamburg and the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. In 2016, she also took on the role of festival and jury director for a drone film festival. In 2018, Bäumer achieved a significant milestone, winning the German Film Award for Best Actress for her sensitive portrayal of Romy Schneider in Emily Atef's biographical film 3 Days in Quiberon. In addition to her acting pursuits, she offers workshops focused on self-discovery and personal growth, often incorporating horses into her practice.
