Her father, Takeo Sakai, is also a respected professional bowler in Japan, notably achieving victory in the Round1 Japan Cup in 1988, a distinction that makes him the final JPBA member to claim that title. Mika's younger sister, Reika Sakai, shares her passion for bowling, and the two sisters have notably competed together in the P-League.
