About Mutya Buena
Rosa Isabel Mutya Buena, an English artist known for her singing and songwriting, first gained prominence as a foundational member of the celebrated girl group Sugababes. Alongside her original bandmates Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, and later with Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah, and Jade Ewen, Buena experienced significant chart success. The Sugababes achieved four chart-topping singles in the UK, secured six additional top-ten entries, and released three albums that achieved multi-platinum status.
Following her departure from the group in December 2005, Buena embarked on a solo career, releasing her first studio album, Real Girl, in June 2007. The album's lead single, the title track "Real Girl," climbed to the number two position on the UK Singles Chart. The album itself achieved a top-ten placement on the UK Albums Chart and was certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry.
A significant development occurred in 2012 when Buena and her former Sugababes colleagues announced their reunion. Initially, the original trio explored releasing music under the moniker MKS (Mutya Keisha Siobhan), issuing a single titled "Flatline" in 2013. In September 2019, the group definitively confirmed their return under the Sugababes name.
Buena's musical endeavors continued in recent years. In February 2020, she joined forces with the London-based production duo Electric Pineapple for the pop song "Black Valentine." This was followed in May 2021 by a collaboration with electronic music producer duo Ryuken on the UK garage-inspired track "The One." Most recently, in April 2023, Buena lent her vocals to the electro-house track "All I Own," a creation by Dutch-Filipino DJ Laidback Luke. Buena's heritage is a blend of Irish and Filipina ancestry.
