About Namitha
Namitha is a prominent figure in Indian cinema, known for her work primarily in Tamil and Telugu films, with additional appearances in Kannada and Malayalam productions. Beyond her acting career, she has also ventured into modeling and politics. Her journey began in the world of beauty pageants, where she was crowned Miss Surat at just 17 years old in 1998. Her participation in the 2001 Miss India contest saw her secure the third runner-up position. Such was her popularity that in 2008, a devoted fan erected a temple in her honor near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, a distinction previously held by only one other actress in the state. Her devoted following also led to an attempted kidnapping by a fan in Trichy in 2010. In 2012, her appeal extended internationally when a Japanese media station, Tokyo TV, recognized her as the "most beautiful person" in India. She has also lent her voice to the cause of safe driving, partnering with actor Bharat in 2012 to promote awareness. Namitha entered the political arena by joining the AIADMK on April 24, 2016, under the leadership of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Later, in 2019, she transitioned to the Bharatiya Janata Party, joining the party alongside actor Radha Ravi in Chennai. By July 2020, a mere eight months after joining the BJP, she was appointed to a state executive position within the party in Tamil Nadu.
