About Necar Zadegan
Born in Heidelberg, West Germany, on June 20, 1982, Necar Zadegan spent her formative years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her family roots lie in Iran. She achieved academic distinction at the University of California, Santa Barbara, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Literature with honors. Her educational journey also included a period of study abroad at the renowned Sorbonne University. Fluent in Persian, French, English, and German, Zadegan is recognized for her dynamic presence on both stage and screen.
Her Broadway debut was a notable one, originating the role of the Leper in Rajiv Joseph's "The Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo," a play recognized with a Pulitzer Prize nomination and multiple Tony Awards, where she shared the stage with Robin Williams. Currently, she portrays Special Agent Hannah Khoury in the CBS series "NCIS: New Orleans," part of a global franchise. She has also joined the cast of the highly anticipated new installment of the Star Trek universe, "Picard."
Zadegan first received significant critical attention for her portrayal of Dalia Hassan, a First Lady who ascends to the presidency, in the popular Fox series "24." More recently, she delivered a standout, humorous performance in the IFC film "Documentary: Now," a satirical docu-spoof available on Netflix, written by Seth Meyers and featuring an ensemble cast. This project, which garnered multiple Emmy nominations, is now available for streaming in the UK. For HBO, she took the leading role of Layla Shokrani in the drama "Here and Now," crafted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Alan Ball.
In the popular Bravo comedy "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce," available on Netflix, Zadegan embodies Delia Banai, a fashionable, influential attorney. This character was specifically written for her by the show's creator, Marti Noxon, and became a fan favorite. The show recently concluded with its fifth and final season. This past year also saw Zadegan become part of the cast of the hit ABC series "The Good Doctor."
Her other series regular roles include playing Dr. Gina Bandari in "Emily Owens MD" and starring opposite Greg Kinnear in the FOX comedy "Rake." Among her extensive body of work, other notable credits include a role in the Steven Spielberg-produced series "Extant," appearing opposite Sean Bean in the spy series "Legends," and a memorable turn as the Queen of Iran in the critically acclaimed Showtime series "Masters of Sex," where she acted alongside Michael Sheen. She also shared the screen with Sheen in the Columbia TriStar psychological thriller "Unthinkable," featuring Samuel L. Jackson. Additionally, Zadegan appeared with Adam Sandler in Judd Apatow's "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" and took on the title role in "Elena Undone," a film that achieved success at independent film festivals internationally.
