Parker Valby — Biography
Parker Valby stands as a prominent figure in American distance running, currently affiliated with New Balance. Her athletic prowess spans both track and field and cross-country disciplines. She has achieved an impressive six NCAA championships and holds the NCAA records for the outdoor 5000 meters and 10,000 meters. Valby recently represented the United States at the Paris Olympics in the 10,000-meter event, securing an eleventh-place finish.
Hailing from Pennsylvania, Valby spent her formative years in East Lake, Florida, where she completed her high school education at East Lake High School. Prior to her track and field journey, she was a dedicated competitive swimmer. Her introduction to cross-country occurred in 2016. Initially hesitant to join the track and field team, a commitment that would necessitate her relinquishing lacrosse, she eventually embraced the challenge. As a junior, she not only captured the Florida state championship but also set the state's all-time record. Unfortunately, her senior year was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, preventing her from competing.
Valby's collegiate career was with the University of Florida. During her sophomore year, she earned runner-up honors in the 5000 meters at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, finishing behind Katelyn Tuohy with a personal best of 15:20.10. The subsequent fall, Valby again found herself in second place to Tuohy, this time at the NCAA Cross Country Championships held in Oklahoma.
