She embarked on her film career with a supporting role in the 2005 romantic comedy Hitch, and the following year, she appeared in the musical film Idlewild. Patton gained prominence with her significant role in the 2006 action thriller Déjà Vu. She continued to make an impact with leading performances in films such as Mirrors (2008), Swing Vote (2008), and the romantic comedies Jumping the Broom (2011) and Baggage Claim (2013), as well as the action-packed Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) and 2 Guns (2013).
