Pauley Perrette — Biography

Pauley Perrette is an American actress, musician, published author, and advocate for civil rights. Her most recognizable role is Abby Sciuto in the American television series ‘NCIS’. Perrette has also appeared in films such as the supernatural horror movie ‘The Ring’ and television programs including ‘24’ and ‘Special Unit 2’. She gravitates towards independent film projects rather than mainstream commercial movies. Beyond her acting career, Perrette co-authored the book ‘Donna Bell’s Bake Shop: Recipes and Stories of Family, Friends and Food.’ This book chronicles how Perrette and her two closest friends established a Southern-style bakery in Manhattan. The book also features photographs of Perrette and she is a co-owner of the Manhattan establishment, ‘Donna Bell’s Bake Shop’, named in honor of her late mother. Perrette is deeply committed to civil rights advocacy and has written and produced a documentary focusing on Mark Lane, a U.S. Civil Rights attorney and author. She has frequently been a guest on talk shows like ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’, ‘The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’, and ‘Late Show with David Letterman’.

Born Pauley Jones on March 27, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Perrette spent her formative years in various states including Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, and California. Her early interests included working with animals and performing in a rock and roll band, alongside an aspiration to become an FBI agent. Academically, she excelled as an honors student in sociology, psychology, and criminal science, and pursued criminal justice studies at Valdosta State University in Georgia. She later relocated to New York City to study at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Perrette initially began her professional journey in advertising. After securing roles in commercials, she was motivated to move to Los Angeles to pursue acting. Her early acting career involved guest spots on notable television series. In 2011, while appearing in ‘Special Unit 2’, she landed the role of forensic scientist Abby Sciuto in ‘NCIS’, a series centered on the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
