Residing in Los Angeles, California, Penny Oleksiak is a distinguished competitor in freestyle and butterfly swimming at both Olympic and World Championship levels. Her breakthrough came at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where she captured four medals, a haul highlighted by a gold in the 100-meter freestyle. This made her the inaugural Canadian athlete to secure four medals in a single Summer Games. Her continued success at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics saw her add three more medals, elevating her career Olympic medal total to seven. This achievement positions her as the Canadian record holder for the most Olympic medals amassed by any athlete. In July 2025, Oleksiak accepted a provisional suspension following notification from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding a potential anti-doping rule violation concerning whereabouts failures.
