Regine Tugade — Biography

Born on January 28, 1998, Regine Tugade is a celebrated sprinter hailing from Guam. Her athletic journey has seen her represent her country on significant international stages. In 2015, she showcased her speed at the World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, China, participating in the women's 100-meter race. The same year, she also took on the challenge of the girl's 200-meter event at the World Youth Championships held in Cali, Colombia. Tugade continued to climb the ranks, making her debut at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she competed in the women's 100-meter preliminary round. Although she secured a third-place finish in her heat, her Olympic journey concluded at that stage. Her international presence was further solidified with a second appearance at the World Championships in 2017, this time focusing on the 200-meter sprint. At the national level, Tugade's dominance is undeniable, as she holds an impressive seven Guamanian national records in athletics. Notably, her dedication to both sport and service led to a unique distinction: she was granted a one-week exemption from the Naval Academy's rigorous six-week plebe training program to participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics, making her the first Navy plebe ever to compete in the Olympic Games.
