Roberta Pedon — Biography
Roberta Pedon was an American glamour model with a notably voluptuous figure who achieved prominence during the 1970s and maintained her recognition thereafter. Hailing from Ohio, she experienced a difficult childhood in which her mother viewed her early physical development negatively and attempted to instill shame regarding her body. Her participation in the film Delinquent Schoolgirls involved mimicking her mother's voice, which served as a form of personal catharsis. Those who encountered her noted that she possessed a standard American accent and demonstrated fluency in Portuguese. Her parents were reportedly of Latvian Jewish heritage. Her birth name was Rosma Grantoviskis, though she performed professionally under multiple names including Roberta Pedon, Melody O'Hare, and Roberta Weaver. The stage name Melody O'Hare derived from a close friend she had known during junior high school. Her casting in Delinquent Schoolgirls resulted from connections between the filmmakers and a Los Angeles enterprise that produced glamour photography and short films, enabling them to cast bust models such as Roberta and Nika Movenka in acting roles. Following her film appearance, she pursued additional acting opportunities and auditioned for a project involving actor Jan-Michael Vincent, yet personal difficulties and inadequate representation prevented her from securing further roles. Her romantic involvements were characteristically short-lived and turbulent, marked by her seeking meaningful emotional connections with men who subsequently abandoned her. She claimed relationships with an actor from Planet of the Apes and a former television personality who died under unclear circumstances in 1978. Her most sustained relationship was with writer Gustav Hasford, whose novel The Short Timers later inspired the film Full Metal Jacket. Though discovered in America, her first magazine appearance occurred in a Danish adult publication. She typically adopted hippie aesthetics during photo sessions. Her career trajectory shortened considerably following her September 1975 arrest in San Francisco on drug and prostitution charges. After her release, former colleagues distanced themselves from her, including those involved with Delinquent Schoolgirls. Struggling with homelessness, substance dependency, and chronic bulimia, she completed her final photograph in 1976. A separate Italian woman sharing the same name and similar appearance appears in modern online videos discussing hippie experiences in India during that era, though records confirm they are distinct individuals.
