Selena Gomez — Biography

Selena Gomez embarked on her acting journey with the children’s show Barney & Friends from 2002 to 2004. As a teenager, she gained popularity for her role as Alex Russo on the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired from 2007 to 2012. In addition to her television work, Gomez featured in several films including Another Cinderella Story (2008), Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009), Ramona and Beezus (2010), Monte Carlo (2011), Spring Breakers (2012), Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), and The Dead Don’t Die (2019). She also lent her voice to the character Mavis in the Hotel Transylvania series from 2012 to 2022. Gomez took the reins as executive producer for Netflix's 13 Reasons Why (2017–2020) and Living Undocumented (2019) through her own production company, July Moon Productions. She serves as both producer and star on the HBO Max cooking show Selena + Chef (2020–2022) as well as the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building (2021–present), which has garnered her critical acclaim, including Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

Gomez released three albums with her former band, Selena Gomez & the Scene, each reaching the top ten of the US Billboard 200 and earning gold certifications from the RIAA: Kiss & Tell (2009), A Year Without Rain (2010), and When the Sun Goes Down (2011). Her debut solo album, Stars Dance (2013), topped the U.S. Billboard 200, with its lead single, "Come & Get It," entering the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. Her second studio album, Revival (2015), debuted at number one in the U.S., earned platinum status, and produced three top-ten hits: "Good for You," "Same Old Love," and "Hands to Myself." Gomez's third studio album, Rare (2020), secured her a third consecutive number one in the U.S., with its lead single, "Lose You to Love Me," becoming her first number-one song in both the U.S. and Canada. In 2021, she released the Spanish-language EP Revelación, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.

Over the years, she has received various accolades, including being named Billboard's Woman of the Year in 2017 and setting 16 Guinness World Records. Time magazine recognized her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2020. With a considerable social media presence, she is the most followed woman on Instagram. Beyond her music and acting careers, she has launched makeup, clothing, handbag, and fragrance lines, and actively works with many charitable organizations, serving as a UNICEF ambassador since she was 17 years old.
