About Silvia Salis
Silvia Salis, born on September 17, 1985, is an Italian who transitioned from being a prominent hammer thrower to a sports executive and politician. She took up athletics in her youth and honed her skills in hammer throw under coach Valter Superina. Salis achieved significant success early on, securing several national junior and under-23 championships before making her senior international debut in 2006. Her athletic prowess led her to represent Italy in major global events, including the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games. Among her accomplishments were a gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in 2009 and a personal record of 71.93 metres established in 2011. Over her career, she garnered multiple national titles and was a consistent member of the Italian national team. Following her retirement from competitive sports in 2016 due to injuries, Salis transitioned into sports administration, working with Fiamme Azzurre and holding positions within the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL) and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), where she ascended to the role of Deputy Vice President in 2021. Her political journey commenced in 2025 when she was elected as the Mayor of Genoa.
