Sophie B. Hawkins — Biography
Hailing from New York City, Sophie B. Hawkins embarked on her musical journey after a brief stint as a percussionist at the Manhattan School of Music. Her career truly took flight in the 1990s, marked by widespread acclaim and significant commercial achievements with her initial two LPs. This period saw the release of several memorable singles, including the widely recognized "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover," "Right Beside You," and "As I Lay Me Down." Following a disagreement with her label, Sony Music, regarding her third album, Timbre, Hawkins decided to forge her own path, founding Trumpet Swan Productions, her independent label, under which all her later works have been released. Beyond her music, Hawkins has consistently championed animal rights and environmental protection. Her activism extends to social and political arenas, where she actively supports initiatives focused on women in the music industry and LGBTQ rights.
