About Srabanti Chatterjee
Srabanti Chatterjee is a prominent figure in Bengali cinema, whose career path has also included stints as a journalist for ABP News and a television anchor. Her primary focus remains on the vibrant world of Bengali film.
Chatterjee ventured into politics on March 1, 2021, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was subsequently fielded as a candidate for the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, contesting from the Behala Paschim constituency. Her opponent was the incumbent Minister of School Education and a key leader of the Trinamool Congress, Partha Chatterjee. Ultimately, Srabanti lost the election by a margin of 50,884 votes. Just eight months after her entry into the party, on November 11, 2021, Srabanti announced her departure from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Throughout her public life, Srabanti Chatterjee has frequently found herself at the center of public discussion and debate. She has been married three times. Her most recent union, with cabin crew member Roshan Singh, reportedly concluded on a contentious note. Roshan Singh made allegations of emotional mistreatment during their marriage, including claims of her engaging in body shaming and sexual shaming, disseminating fabricated stories about him, and seeking financial support from him. Presently, there are whispers of her being in a relationship with Avirup Nag Chowdhury, a businessman who resides in her building.
A more recent incident occurred in 2022 during a film shoot, when Srabanti shared images on her social media showing her with a young mongoose, depicted as being leashed and separated from its mother. This sparked considerable criticism from online users who pointed out the apparent contradiction in her actions, given her expressed affection for the animal. Consequently, the Wildlife Crime Control cell of West Bengal issued her a formal notice on February 15, citing violations of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. She was summoned to appear before the range officer, as offenses related to mongooses carry significant prison sentences and are non-bailable.
In 2023, another controversy emerged when fitness enthusiasts filed a complaint concerning a gym co-owned by Srabanti. She has reportedly denied any personal involvement in the matters related to this complaint.
