In 2012, she made headlines when she shaved her head to raise funds and promote awareness for issues such as cancer, alopecia, and trichotillomania. This act caught the eye of fashion photographer Peter Coulson, who featured Ferrario in his book "In My Pants," which was created to support cancer awareness and benefit the Cancer Council Australia. In February 2015, Ferrario collaborated with television host Ajay Rochester to launch a campaign aimed at eliminating the label "plus size" for models who wear sizes larger than a US dress size 4. She posted an impactful photo with the message "I am a model FULL STOP" and the hashtag "#droptheplus," which not only attracted media attention but also sparked widespread discussion on social media, receiving predominantly positive feedback within the fashion community. A committed vegan, she actively participates in protests organized by PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
